Education and Training Requirements

High School

Most people entering technology-related fields have at least a bachelor's degree. If you are considering a career as a digital agent, you should take a college preparatory course load in high school. Naturally, take as many computer science classes (especially those in digital media) as you can. This way you will be able to learn about using computers as well as test out how well you like working with them. Take mathematics and business courses to prepare you for college and working life. It will be very important to take English or communication courses since much of your work will involve speaking with and listening to people as well as doing research. Consider taking psychology classes, which can help you understand working with people.

Postsecondary Training

Digital agents may have bachelor's degrees in computer-related areas, degrees in digital media or design, or they may have liberal arts degrees and extensive computer knowledge. Whatever degree you decide to get, make sure your education includes courses beyond computer and Web work. Take business classes, because you will be working with budgets and finances. Human resources courses will teach you about working with people. Psychology and English courses will also be beneficial.

Internships or summer jobs with high-tech companies can give you invaluable experience. When you are in the process of choosing a college or university to attend, find out if the career services center will be able to help you locate an internship or summer job with a high-tech company or a large company that needs help in its technical division. Hands-on experience will add to your knowledge as well as give you credibility as an agent looking to place people in this field.

Certification, Licensing, and Special Requirements

Certification or Licensing

You may need to take training courses, and to become certified in that skill, you must typically pass a written test. This is a good way to update your skills and remain familiar with new developments in the industry. The more computer knowledge you have, the better equipped you will be to serve your clients.

If you are establishing your own digital recruitment firm, a business license may be required to work in certain states. Contact your state’s department of professional regulation for information on requirements in your state.
