Overview
Introduction
Outdoor brand Patagonia was founded in 1973 as an "un-company" (i.e., one that places its values in people and the planet), and it makes good on this promise. It's donated one percent of all sales to environmental nonprofits, and repairs its clothing to eliminate clothing waste.

About the Company
Outdoor apparel and lifestyle merchant Patagonia is one of those companies that eschews the relentless pursuit of shareholder value in order to give something back to the community, if not the planet. The company donates one percent of all sales to environmental nonprofits and since 1985, has donated $100 million to various environmental groups, including the Conservation Alliance (which it helped found in 1989). Patagonia has been repairing customer’s clothes since the 1970s, and operates one of the largest apparel repair centers in North America. In 2013, it launched a venture capital fund that invests in startups that work on environmental issues, and in 2018, Patagonia changed its mission statement to, “We’re in business to save our home planet.”
