About the Company

Constellation Brands began in 1945. At just 21 years old, founder Marvin Sands began selling wine in bulk with eight employees after purchasing Canadaigua Industries. In its first year, the company sold 200,000 gallons of wine and gross sales came in at $150,000. Just over 15 years later, the company grew sales to $8 million. In 1973, the company became the Canandaigua Wine Company, Inc. and went public on the New York Stock Exchange. By the year 2000, the company was known as Constellation Brands, and began its modern legacy as a provider of wine, beer, and spirits. In 2015, Constellation Ventures was founded to find small-scale/large-reward investment opportunities, and by 2018, Constellation was investing in companies like the Canopy Growth Corporation, a leading diversified cannabis company.
