Today, we’re pleased to release our new ranking of the 30 Best Internship Programs for Overall Diversity. The ranking is based on a survey of more than 11,400 current and former interns from more than 100 internship programs. This past summer, Firsthand asked interns to rate their internship experiences in a variety of areas, including career development, compensation, full-time employment prospects, interview process, quality of life, and diversity.
As for diversity, interns were asked to rate their program’s DE&I efforts when it comes to culture, hiring, and mentoring with respect to the following groups: women, underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ individuals, individuals with disabilities, and individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. Interns were asked to rate their programs’ efforts for each group on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 means “needs a lot of improvement” and 10 means “receptive and effective.” Firsthand then averaged each program’s scores and ranked the programs accordingly.
