Intern Reviews

  • “For an investment banking internship, my quality of life was great. I worked quite a bit but felt a strong satisfaction from working hard each week, as I enjoyed seeing myself improve and learn throughout the internship. The firm culture is great in the Charlotte office, and I was typically required to work about 65-75 hours per week, which I didn't see as being bad. My general work-life balance was good in my eyes.”
  • “As with any banking internship, there will be some long hours. However, if you don't have work to do, there is no expectation that you must stay until every full-time is out of the office. Piper also has a great culture of people that enjoy what they work on. Fun work environment.”
  • “The firm culture is impressively fantastic. After receiving an internship offer, a large reason I decided to sign and intern with this bank was because of how great I felt the cultural fit would be, yet the culture still exceeded my expectations. Everyone gets along with each other, including all the interns, and it has fostered a highly collaborative environment. This makes it very easy to learn, as everyone is glad to help explain concepts and push us to put us in the position needed to be successful. The environment is ideal. Interns work roughly 9 a.m. to 10 or 11 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, none on Saturday, and it varies on Sunday depending on individual workload. The work-life balance is about as good as possible, considering that this is banking, and the deal flow is solid. No complaints at all regarding the quality of life, firm culture, overall environment, and work-life balance.”
  • “It's investment banking, so there's naturally a lot of time devoted to the work you do; however, Piper does a great job of assigning meaningful work that makes the job enjoyable. Furthermore, facetime culture can be toxic if over-emphasized. It was managed well in the office I was at this summer, making the job more of a meritocracy valuing good work rather than pure facetime.”

Getting Hired Here

  • “I thoroughly enjoyed the interview process, with the firm caring more about the personality and background than just seeing if you already know the necessary information.”
  • “The interview process was great. I was lucky enough to speak with numerous Managing Director or higher individuals during the Superday. Getting the chance to have a 30-minute conversation like that was great, and the willingness for them to take time out of their busy schedules to interview us was another reason why it was my top choice.”
  • “Very clear process with strong support throughout. Three interviews, with one being a phone screen, one being a virtual interview, and another being a three-interview super day. Standards seemed relatively selective but highly dependent on group and office.”
  • “Completely satisfied with the hiring process. I had numerous coffee chats with associates, followed by one VP and one director chat. Following my coffee chats, I was invited to Piper Sandler's super day in Charlotte. The firm is highly selective in fielding applicants.”
