About the Company

American Eagle Outfitters, commonly known as American Eagle, has been a fixture in youth fashion for nearly 50 years. The first store opened its doors in Novi, Michigan, in 1977. In its early days, American Eagle was a brand under the company Retail Ventures Inc., but in 1990, Schottenstein Stores Corp. purchased American Eagle and began selling AE private label products. The company was highly successful, and just four years later made its public debut on the New York Stock Exchange with symbol AEOS. In 2006, American Eagle’s second brand Aerie officially launched. Aerie aimed to offer young women a safe and welcoming space to buy underwear and bras that didn’t just fit them, but made them feel confident. Both brands have always aimed to design and offer clothing that is classic yet trendy and helps young people feel cool and confident.
