Introduction

Best-known as a streaming platform for gamers, Twitch provides users with a way to connect on whatever they're passionate about, whether it's games, crafts, music, or something else entirely. It also hosts a biannual event, TwitchCon, to showcase what's new in the community. Twitch's San Francisco campus is a classic (albeit purple and grey) startup campus, with stylish décor and an enviable cafeteria.

About the Company

Twitch is an online live streaming platform where users can watch live content from a seemingly endless number of categories and creators. It was originally the gaming facet of a site called Justin.tv and was the most popular part of the platform. In 2011, the company decided to bolster its most popular feature and create TwitchTV, which focused on live gaming broadcasts. By 2013, TwitchTV had raised over $30 million and hired its 100th employee. With 45 million monthly viewers, the company started to become profitable and expanded to all sorts of live content, not just gaming. In 2014, Justin.TV’s parent company permanently closed Justin.TV and rebranded as Twitch Interactive. That year, tech giants Google and Amazon made offers to buy the increasingly successful Twitch, and Amazon ultimately acquired Twitch for $970 million.
