About the Firm

Weintraub Tobin is a full-service firm with five offices all based in the Golden State. The firm’s lawyers work across eight core practice areas and myriad industries.

Dating Back

Weintraub Tobin’s roots date back to 1852, making it California’s oldest law firm and the oldest west of the Mississippi. Richard Tobin started his law practice in San Francisco representing clients like Hibernia Savings and Loan Society and the first archbishop of San Francisco, Joseph Sadoc Aleman. (The Archdiocese continues to be a firm client to this day.)

Meanwhile, in 1978, a group of lawyers broke away from Sacramento’s largest firm, Downey Brand, to form Weintraub Genshlea Chediak. The Weintraub firm grew to more than 40 lawyers when it merged with Tobin & Tobin in 2012....
