&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Training &amp;amp; Assignments&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&quot;Each summer associate receives a mentor who assists in getting the summer associate assignments. Attorneys place assignments in a summer associate web portal, which then allows the attorney to provide feedback once the assignment is complete.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I was given substantive assignments to work on, and while other firms tended to have events during the day, I felt like the workday was similar to that of a real associate. You got a genuine associate experience as a summer. We were also able to work on a variety of different types of projects and the assignment coordinators made every effort to find work in areas we were interested in if we voiced our interest.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The firm works hard to integrate summer associates and does so successfully. I received meaningful work from a variety of practice areas, helping me to determine which group I wanted to enter.”&lt;strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Social Opportunities&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The summer social events were well-planned and attended. Summer associates were given multiple opportunities to interact with the office managing partner, partners from all practice groups, and associates at all levels. My group of summer associates formed strong friendships that have lasted to this day.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The summer events were fun and different, including a New York scavenger hunt with associates and partners, a women&#39;s event where we all cooked together, and community service events. The summers were all friendly and I liked everyone that I had the opportunity to get to know. The class is small which makes for a better experience, in my opinion.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“There was a nice balance of social events where if you wanted, you could get to know the Reed Smith attorneys multiple times a week. The associates and partners were genuinely interested in getting to know us and I was surprised how much time they took out of their busy days to meet us.”&lt;strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Associate Experience vs. Summer Expectations&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I was very surprised by the autonomy I had as a first-year associate. I had to seek out my own work and assignments, which was very different from the summer associate web portal I had experienced during my summer. With that said, this pushed me to seek out meaningful work for myself and I found a practice group that I really liked and would not have expected myself to join during my summer.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I&#39;ve been pleasantly surprised that the firm is as collegial, and the attorneys are all as nice as they came across in my summer associate program. Being an associate, the workload was obviously more challenging, but the support and mentoring has been wonderful. You really cannot get a glimpse at that during a short summer program. When I&#39;ve been slammed, partners are always looking out for me and reaching out to check-in.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I have more control over my experience as an attorney than I did as a summer. I felt that summer associate was more intense because there was so much packed into 10 weeks, whereas as an attorney you have longer to complete assignments and follow up. It&#39;s easier to have a balance as an attorney as opposed to a summer.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I think the firm advertised things well. We obviously did not work as much as summer associates, but I think it was generally understood we would ramp up during full-time employment.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Favorite Summer Events&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“My favorite event was the Phillies game.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“My favorite summer event was when each of us had to ‘teach our class/summer program coordinators’ something. The presentations ranged from learning how to ski, to what to pack on a road trip, to how to live life to the fullest while also never giving into fear and pursuing one&#39;s goals and dreams. It was an insightful activity that was not only an ice-breaker, but allowed all of us to peer into important hobbies and activities our fellow summer associates enjoyed.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Malibu Farms wine tasting.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Paint night to end the summer.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
