Survey Says

Training & Assignments

  • “While summer work can't entirely approximate actual attorney tasks, I had the opportunity to work on a variety of matters in varying practice areas, including prepping for and attending a deposition and drafting legal documents for filing with the court. I wasn't pressured to pick a particular practice area and stick with it, and I was allowed to request work in areas I thought would interest me.”
  • “The workload was properly balanced to give us a taste of substantive work we would do as first year associates without being overwhelming. There were frequent training sessions that were very helpful.”
  • “Summer associates are paired with partner and associate advisors from the first day of the program, and the training portion is very effective and junior friendly.”
  • “I was able to try a wide variety of meaningful work—litigation, corporate, and pro bono projects—in addition to our weekly training sessions. I really appreciated being able to sample from a variety of practice areas.”

Social Opportunities

  • “Great camaraderie among the summer class, which has continued with active group texts during remote work.”
  • “Associates always joined our after work events, which gave us a good opportunity to get to know them outside of work. The events really brought our class together, and I thought of them as good friends by the end of the summer.”
  • “We had a ton of great events and plenty of informal opportunities to hang out and get to know each other, as a result I formed rich bonds with the other members of my class.”
  • “In addition to socials just for the summers, we were invited to the practice group socials, so we got to meet a lot of the attorneys in each group. One of my favorites was when one of the groups rented out a movie theater nearby and we watched Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

Associate Experience vs. Summer Expectations

  • “Not too many surprises coming in as full time associate. I think the summer program introduced me well to the firm.”
  • “The obvious difference is the remote aspect of work. However, I am pleasantly surprised by how well the firm has handled remote work, first year orientation, and virtual events. Otherwise, I would say that my expectations did not differ. Firm attorneys over my summer were open and honest about the pros and cons firm life. I appreciated the candor.”
  • “All expectations have been reasonably met, except for workload I would say. Things are much busier, but that is not a fault of those who gave that impression. No one could have predicted the pandemic and that the legal industry as a whole would get so busy.”
  • “I have been pleasantly surprised. The firm espoused a certain culture as a summer that I did not believe would be the case. Since starting they have exceeded my expectations and has lived up to everything they said to the summer associates.”

Favorite Summer Events

  • “Wine tasting.”
  • “BBQ Karaoke Night.”
  • “Visiting the Black History museum.”
