Partners and associates went out of their way to provide meaningful training and guidance. The firm also allowed associates to try assignments in different practice areas, which I really valued.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I was given substantive work in the group I&#39;m most interested in and had meaningful partner interactions. I was also given the opportunity to listen in on strategy sessions and worked closely with associates at all levels.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I always felt comfortable asking for different types of work and knowing that staffing would work to make sure I had a chance to try that work. &lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Social Opportunities&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Everyone was very warm and enthusiastic but not in an overwhelming way. There wasn&#39;t intense pressure around social activities—it really felt like everyone was trying to get to know each other and answer questions.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I was hesitant about the large size of the class initially and was fearful that I would not get to know much of the class. However, through a mix of trainings with everyone in the class a plethora of social events, I ultimately was able to meet and get to know a large portion of the class. The social events were genuinely fun and conducive to getting to know people, ranging from baseball games to scavenger hunts to cooking classes to a yacht night to renting out the Central Park Zoo.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The firm&#39;s summer program is not as social as others, it is more geared as preparing you for life as an associate, with a good mix of social time. It was not about big, unique events, but a lot of smaller more intimate events that helped the summers get to know each other as well as interact with others in their practice groups.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The social events were great, but Debevoise&#39;s real strength is its people and its commitment to mentoring and development.&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;Through my time as a summer, I worked with multiple partners and associates who remain important mentors to me today.&lt;span&gt;&#160; &lt;/span&gt;The ability of the firm to nourish these mentoring relationships and encourage the development of real friendships is unparalleled.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Associate Experience vs. Summer Expectations&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The firm generally discourages summer associates from working late nights or weekends, but at the same time everyone is very open about explaining what day-to-day life is like as a full-time associate. As a result, I both enjoyed my summer but also developed pretty accurate exceptions about what it would be like joining the firm full-time.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Debevoise is pretty up front and transparent about expectations for when you are a full-time first year. You are expected to work a lot but the firm does not hide that fact. Additionally, in litigation, you have the ability to try out all types of work as a first year, which definitely was made clear during the summer. I have been pleasantly surprised by how much of a team it feels like working here.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“I have a lot more flexibility to try different practice areas and shape my practice than I expected.&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;The staffing partners really make an effort to staff me on matters that I express interest in, and at least monthly check in with me on my level of satisfaction with the work.&lt;span&gt;&#160; &lt;/span&gt;The partners are also extremely responsive.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The work load is more intense as an actual associate, but that&#39;s to be fully expected. I&#39;ve been pleasantly surprised by how interesting the work can be.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Favorite Summer Events&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;“Central park zoo event.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The firm took over the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens.&lt;span&gt; &lt;/span&gt;We (the summers) had the whole space to ourselves and it was a lot of fun.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;“The firm wide party at Guastavino&#39;s.”&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;
