About the Company

Fitch Ratings is one of only nine entities that have been designated as nationally recognized statistical rating organizations (NRSROs). NRSROs are SEC-approved credit rating agencies that provide financial information that firms rely on for certain regulatory purposes. Fitch was founded in New York City on Christmas Eve of 1913 as the Fitch Publishing Company. It is currently owned by the Hearst Corporation.

Dually headquartered in New York City and London, Fitch Ratings one of the “Big Three” credit rating agencies. Fitch Ratings has about 15 percent of the global market, whike Moody’s and Standard & Poor’s each have roughly  40 percent apiece.
