Equifax was founded in 1899 by Cator and Guy Woolford, and was originally called the Retail Credit Company. In the 1960s, with offices in both the U.S. and Canada, the company became one of North America’s largest credit bureaus. In order to improve its public image, the company changed its name to Equifax in 1975, and soon after had begun to expand its operations into international markets. Equifax is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
